Tsunami

(3am September 12th, 2001)


The rape of America jerks me awake
seeing again the much re-played collapse
of towers filled with dreams.
As if the shock wave of truncated life
shuddering a deep rift in the earth
unleashed a great tsunami which rears up
and crosses half the world; hours later
to drench me from my sleep with cold prescience
that it could yet engulf us all.
